Medical Care in Koh Rong Samloem

School Rong Samlem (or Koh Rong Samyang) is located on the island of Koh Rong Samlem, a small island not far from Koh Rong. Both islands have experienced a rapid growth in tourism over the past two years. The village of Rong Samlem seems to have taken the most benefits. The opening of the resort with small bungalows has created several jobs for local people, and many people were hired as cooks or cleaners.
Before tourism, most families lived on fishing. The community has grown rapidly thanks to recent economic development. Today they live in the village about 94 families. Since the first health center available is not accessible to the majority of people, CCS organizes regular medical checks for the community, during which specific pesticides are distributed drugs, vitamins, cared for common ailments and made the main vaccinations. When you need CCS transfers the children on the mainland.

Volunteers Activities in Cambodia

Our activities in Cambodia began in 2006.

Today we are present with our projects in 42 villages in the provinces of Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kandal.

In both provinces of Kampot and Sihanoukville, located in southern Cambodia, our intervention is on two different areas.

The first area of intervention is rural, characterized by the level of socio-economic development in the typical country: here we support girls and children of disadvantaged families in addressing barriers that usually keep them from access to education and to live a ‘ children healthy, safe from violence and abuse.

The second type of intervention is the most remote areas, characterized by a general lack of opportunities for the children’s families to maintain even a modest lifestyle. In these areas, we place particular emphasis on the basic services that are essential for children’s development, such as pre-primary education, support to teachers from primary to set up extra classes, the spread of information key to health and the welfare of children and access to health services.

In Kandal province, where we work together with the local Catholic church, we are focused in a border with Vietnam, where many children from ethnic Vietnamese and their families is in fact denied the Cambodian citizenship. Our work focuses on providing these children with access to pre-primary education with bilingualism, which can facilitate access to and integration in public schools in Cambodia and their acceptance in society.
